The KDL40E4000 comes with MPEG-2 (Motion Picture Experts Group) This is a standard compression format for storing and transferring pictures, music and data with little or no loss in quality.

Different formats include MPEG-2 and advanced MPEG-4, which is used primarily to compress digital audio and video data as well as stream media. Sony Cyber-shot cameras, Handycam® camcorders and the new WALKMAN® video all use MPEG technology. Cyber-shot cameras also feature various MPEG Movie modes like MPEG Movie Video Mail – designed for creating small files which are easy to e-mail – and MPEG Movie VX, which allows you to record smooth-quality footage for play back at full size on a TV.
